#GenderEqualityForMen

Debates about “gender equality” typically focus only on issues that pertain to women. But what about gender equality as it applies to men? Many persons are surprised to learn that American men are lagging behind women in many ways — see 12 areas of male disadvantage.

Highlights:

National Survey:

  • A national survey found that 73% of Americans agree that society should invest in addressing the societal challenges that men face, such as higher rates of suicide, homelessness, and work fatalities.
  • 57% of survey respondents supported greater “mental health support specifically for men.”

State Commissions for Fathers and Men:

  • Fatherhood Commissions – Existing
  • Washington State Commission on Boys and Men – Proposed (HB 1266)

Supportive Statements:

  • Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer: “I’m signing an executive directive that will make an effort to reach more young men and boost their enrollment in our higher education and skills training programs.”
  • Vice President JD Vance:
    • “My message to young men is don’t allow this broken culture to send you a message that you’re a bad person because you’re a man, because you like to tell a joke, because you like to have a beer with your friends, or because you’re competitive.”
  • Maryland Gov. Wes Moore:
  • Sen. Josh Hawley, Missouri:
    • “Of all the things this country needs—stronger borders, better-paying jobs, some basic safety on our streets—above all, America needs stronger men. The left has spent decades running men down, blaming them for everything from climate change to ‘the patriarchy.’ They’re wrong. Strong men aren’t the problem. For America, stronger, better men are the solution.”
  • Rep. Frederica Wilson, 24th District of Florida:
    • “The U.S. Commission on the Social Status of Black Men and Boys (CSSBMB) is the culmination of my work as U.S. Congresswoman to empower our Black men and boys.”
