ASSOCIATION OF TITLE IX ADMINISTRATORS

Numerous individuals and organizations have expressed criticisms of the Association of Title IX Administrators (ATIXA) and its leadership. As early as 2014, a BuzzFeed article noted, “Brett Sokolow may be the most successful sexual assault consultant in the country, but critics say he’s building a profitable empire on slippery ethical ground.”

These concerns include conflict of interest, dubious financial practices, and use of harassing tactics. Most problematic, however, is the perception of ATIXA’s pervasive anti-due process agenda and bias against defendants. Attorney Scott Greenfield has commented,

“Every once in a while, someone lacking a firm grasp on the concept of impartiality says the quiet part out loud. When it comes to Title IX hearings, that person is often Brett Sokolow, president of the Association of Title IX Administrators (ATIXA) and head of a college ‘risk management’ consulting company. Sokolow is a lawyer, though you would be hard pressed to figure that out from his grasp of the basic principles of law.”
